Akim Swedru (E/R) Sept. 12, GNA – Mr Dominic Fobi, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman of the Akim Swedru Constituency, has asked the electorate who have illegally transferred their votes to the area to be mindful of the consequences.

He said the act constitutes electoral offence and therefore people should be wary of it.

Mr Fobi gave the advise at a news conference at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District of the Eastern Region at the weekend.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC),has slated Saturday September 17, for the launch of its Manifesto ahead of the 2016 elections.

The party’s 2016 campaign team made the announcement in a statement today [Monday].

The statement signed by Joyce Bawah Mogtari, spokesperson for the NDC’s 2016 campaign team, said the event will be held at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, and will be preceded by a presentation of the highlights of the manifesto by President John Dramani Mahama.

Ghana’s power sector has received a major boost after the country got the nod to access a US$498 million grant under the Ghana Power Compact – Compact II.

The treaty was signed August 2014 between Ghana and the US, represented by the Millennium Challenge Corporation. The fund will help improve the performance of Ghana’s power sector, unlock the country’s economic potential, create jobs and reduce poverty, a statement from MiDA said.

A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced conclusion of a third review meeting with the government of Ghana.

In a press statement copied to ghanabusinessnews.com, the IMF said a team led by Joël Toujas-Bernaté, visited Accra from August 29 to September 2, 2016 to continue discussions on the third review of Ghana’s financial and economic programme supported by the IMF’s Extended Credit Facility (ECF).

The Ministry of Interior has rejected claims that Deputy Minister, James Agalga, attempted to lure outgoing Moderator of the Presbyterian Church Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, to take up the position of chairman of the National Peace Council.

A Journalist from the Daily Express Newspaper has been arrested for ‘offensive conduct’ by the police, for taking pictures of a policeman who was allegedly requesting a GHC5 bribe from a bus driver around Tesano in Accra.

FSDetails available as at press time indicate that Fred Sarpong, the Daily Express Journalist and his colleague, Raphael Apetorgbor witnessed a police officer demanding a GHC 5 bribe from a bus conductor around Tesano this afternoon and took his picture.

Ghana is most likely to receive a positive result after the third review of its three-year programme with the International Monetary Fund, IMF.

Accra, Sept.1, GNA - Government has reached an agreement with some local banks to restructure legacy debts of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in the energy sector.

The initiative would cover a restructuring of the Volta River Authority’s debt as well as those of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Bulk Oil Distributing Companies.

It would target about half of GH₵2.2 billion of the total energy sector debt of GH₵4.4 billion being paid over a period of three to five years
