Prez Mahama, Hollande hold talks in Paris

President John Dramani Mahama yesterday held bilateral talks with the French President, Francois Hollande, at the Elysee Palace in Paris as Ghana and France took their relations a notch higher.
President Mahama, who was in the French capital in his capacity as Co-Chair of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to speak at a UNESCO forum on the importance of information and the media to sustainable development, with a focus on Goal 16 of the 2030 SDGs, rounded off his three-day visit with the bilateral talks with President Hollande.

Power sector needs robust value chain

The Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr Alex Mould, has said the gas-to-power sector needs a robust value chain to ensure that gas supplied for the production of power is paid for and on time.
“Each player in the value chain,” he said, “has to receive the revenue required to meet its cost and subsequently pay for what is supplied along the chain in the production of power.”

Winnie Mandela: ANC Needs Fresh Leadership

Nelson Mandela’s former wife has said that South Africa requires a “whole layer of fresh leadership” and called on senior figures in the African National Congress (ANC) to deal with allegations of corruption.

Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who is herself a member of the ANC’s highest decision-making body, said that the party required “introspection” in order to determine “where we went so wrong” since leading the campaign against apartheid, the political system of racial segregation that ended in South Africa in 1994.

Ghana signs $700m guarantee for Sankofa, Gye Nyame Oil project

The Government of Ghana has signed an agreement of 700 million dollars with the World Bank to provide financial guarantee for the Sankofa Gye Nyame Oil and Gas Project located 60km offshore Takoradi in the Western region.

The World Bank has already negotiated the legal documentation with the project sponsors– ENI, Vitol, GNPC, and the Government of Ghana.

Two international banks, HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank are expected to jointly provide 500 million dollars Letter of Credit in the context of the World Bank’s Payment Guarantee.

23 people line up for Ghana’s presidency

Twenty-three persons aspiring to become president of Ghana have picked up nomination forms to contest in this year’s December 7 presidential elections, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Charlote Osei, has announced.

The figure is made up of 16 political party presidential aspirants and seven independent aspirants.

They are to return the fully filled forms with a filing fee of GHC50,000 by September 29,2016.

The governing NDC says there is nothing phenomenal about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) economic record because it was shielded from economic difficulties through its decision to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

At the “Setting the records straight” press conference broadcasted on Joy FM, Transport Minister, Fifi Kwetey said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has had to face economic difficulties unseen under the NPP government.

Speaking at a High Level event on the sidelines of the ongoing 71st U.N. General Assembly in New York, Mrs Mahama who is also the President of the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV and AIDS (OAFLA) said adolescent girls face numerous challenges and vulnerabilities, yet until recently, they have hardly been the centre of discussions, at the global and national levels.

MiDA debunks “halt ECG privatization” report

The Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) has debunked media reports suggesting that the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has halted the ECG private sector participation process.

According to the authority, the publication is untrue since MiDA has not received any such directive from the office of the Chief of Staff.

“MiDA wishes to state categorically that these comments are untrue and inaccurate,” a statement copied to Citi Business News indicated.

President John Dramani Mahama took to the world stage – the 71st United Nations General Assembly – to tout Ghana’s democratic and economic strides and told his peers: “I am proud of my country.”
“I am proud of my country. We are variously called the ‘model of democracy’ in Africa or the ‘beacon of democracy’,” he told his colleague Heads of State who gathered for the second day of the general debate of the UN General Assembly in New York yesterday.
