President John Mahama on Saturday [October 29] conferred the country’s National Honours and Awards on 33 Ghanaians and foreigners for their outstanding contribution to the development of the country.

The ceremony which took place at the Accra International Conference center saw the founder of Globacom, Michael Adenyi Ishola Adenuga Jnr. receive the highest honor; the “Companion of the Star of Ghana.”

Palmer Buckle endorses Ghana

The Ghana + Peace Campaign 2016 which begun its tour to all the Regions in Ghana are currently in Accra. On 27th October 2016, the Ghana + Peace campaign delegates took the endorsement of the Most Rev. Charles Palmer-Buckler, who is the Ghanaian Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church, a former teacher and the second Ghanaian native to become Archbishop of Accra.
He was a member of 9-member National Reconcilliation Commission. He has remained vocal in Ghana and Africa on issues concerning peace, love and unity.

Nigerian Billionaire Mike Adenuga Receives Highest National Honor In Ghana

Nigerian billionaire Mike Adenuga has been conferred with the Ghanaian national award of ‘Companion Of The Star of Ghana’, the highest national honors in Ghana.

At a televised ceremony in Accra, Ghana on Saturday, Ghanaian President John Mahama bestowed the honor on the Nigerian tycoon in recognition of the immense contributions he has made to Ghana’s economic growth. Adenuga, who is referred to as ‘The Bull’ in Nigerian business circles, has assets worth more than $8 billion in Ghana alone, according to a citation read during the ceremony by President John Mahama.

Ghana passes law 'to evict presidents'

Outgoing presidents in Ghana could be forcibly evicted from their official residences if they fail to move out in time, under new laws.

Presidents and vice-presidents will have to hand over official homes and vehicles at least two weeks before the inauguration of a new leader.

Ministers and other officials will have one month to do the same.

With general elections due on 7 December, the law aims to reduce delays in transferring government property.

Outages due to maintenance, not Dumsor – ECG

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has allayed fears that country may be falling back into its power crisis days by explaining that the recent wide-spread outages were as a result of scheduled maintenance works on some Bulk Supply Points (BSPs).

At a press conference to explain the current happenings, the ECG’s Director of Operations, Engineer Tetteh Okine said the maintenance works on BSPs ended this past Sunday with work in Mallam and Baatsona.

Ghana, best place to do business in West Africa - World Bank report

Finance Minister, Seth Terkper and President John Mahama have finally been vindicated.

The latest World Bank report indicates that Ghana is the best place for doing business in West Africa. This sharply contradicts the position held by NPP Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia who have deliberately painted a gloomy picture about Ghana’s economy.

The latest World Bank Ease of Doing Business report which rated 190 countries indicates Ghana made marginal progress in several area.

Judiciary ready to protect electoral rights – Chief Justice

The Chief Justice Mrs Georgina T. Wood said the Judiciary has men and women committed to safeguarding and protecting electoral rights based on the fundamental rights of all individuals.

She has therefore called for stakeholder collaboration and cooperation to ensure that electoral disputes were dealt with smoothly, timely and successively.

Mrs Justice Wood was speaking at the opening of the ninth edition of the Annual Chief Justice’s Forum in Accra on the theme: “The Judiciary and Election 2016.”

EC To Subject Electoral Officials To Oath Swearing

Mr. Opoku-Mensah said this at a capacity-building workshop for media practitioners in Takoradi to enhance their knowledge of election reportage.

The event, which was organized by the EC and funded by the European Union, also provided a platform for the Commission to highlight some salient issues in the C.I 94, the legislation guiding this year’s elections.

Mr Opoku-Mensah said the Commission had learnt lessons from the 2012 general election during which some temporary election officials behaved unprofessionally.

Sustain the momentum of the crime fight - IGP

Kumasi, Oct 21, GNA - Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor has performed the ceremony to inaugurate a 200-bed capacity hostel built in Oforikrom, Kumasi.

The facility would provide decent accommodation for personnel of the service deployed for operation duties and was undertaken through public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement.

The IGP described the project as “clear demonstration of what police-civilian partnership can offer within the context of public safety and security for the benefit of our communities”.
