Social media ban not off the table - IGP

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor has reiterated his call for social media ban on election day if users post information that will threaten the peace of the country.

According to him, the citizens have so far not given the police reasons to block various social media platforms on elections day.

"So far, so good...whether we will shut it down or not, I don't want to go there, when we get to the bridge we will cross it but as at now, we have no intention to shut down social media if you continue to be good citizens," he indicated.

The 12 disqualified Presidential candidates

The 12 presidential aspirants who are in a desperate legal tussle to overturn their disqualification by the Electoral Commission have yet another hurdle to cross.

The disqualified candidates, who are now suspects have been issued arrest warrant to appear before the police Criminal Investigative Department by close of day, Friday, 21st October, 2016 or risk being arrested by the police.

They face multiple charges of fraud, voting irregularities and have questions to answer, CID boss, Joseph Benefo Darkwah told Joy FM, Friday.

Theresa May has angered European leaders by telling her first EU summit that she expects Britain to be at the centre of European decision-making until Brexit takes place.

In a brief speech at the end of an EU dinner in Brussels, the prime minister said Britain wanted to continue to play a central role in meetings and decisions until it leaves the EU.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria's first lady has openly questioned her husband's work and said she may not support him if he runs again — comments that President Muhammadu Buhari laughed off, saying, "I don't know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room."

His comments to reporters in Germany prompted German Chancellor Angela Merkel, standing at his side, to give him a short glare and then laugh.

Finance Minister presents 2017 1st quarter budget Thursday

he Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper, is expected to present to Parliament next week Thursday, an Advanced Budget; covering government spending for the first quarter of 2017.

The statement will detail the projected revenue and expenditure between January and March next year.

This practice is in accordance with what the Executive does almost every election year to avoid spending hiccups in case of a transition in government.

This is also in accordance with a 2017 budget preparation calendar by the Ministry of Finance.

GHANA DISQUALIFIES EX-FIRST LADY, 12 OTHERS FROM RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

Ghana’s electoral commission has disqualified 13 candidates, including a former first lady, from running in the West African country’s presidential elections in December.

Candidates were disqualified for multiple reasons, including suspected forged signatures and incomplete or incorrect submission forms, the country’s electoral commission said on Monday. The exclusions mean that just four candidates—including incumbent President John Mahama and main opposition party leader Nana Akufo-Addo—in the running for the presidency.

Ghana starts fuel exports to West African countries

Ghana has begun supplying gasoline and gas oil to the landlocked countries of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali from the Bolgatanga Petroleum Depot.
The state-owned Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) Limited is also supplying petroleum products from the depot to Benin and Nigeria.

The Minister of Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who made this known at the meet-the-press series in Accra yesterday, said there were plans to extend the exports to Liberia in the coming months.
