David Annan questions credibility of Occupy Ghana leadership, tags them “shadowy”Private legal practitioner, David Annan, has described the pressure group, OccupyGhana, as shadowy, and questioned the true identity of the personalities behind the group, which has been demanding accountability and justice in the country. According to him the group is being spearheaded by faceless personalities who are hiding their identity, hence asked Ghanaians not to take the group serious. SC’s judgment victory for democracy – ECThe judgment handed by the Supreme Court of Ghana ordering the Electoral Commission (EC) to allow disqualified flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, to get back into the presidential race is victory for democracy, Thaddeus Sory, lawyer for the EC has said. The apex court on Monday, 7 November also ordered the EC to extend the nomination period for flag bearers to Tuesday, 8 November. It also directed the EC to give all parties a fair hearing to make the necessary corrections on their nomination forms. |

New bridge over Volta attracts Japanese fundingAccra, Nov. 1, GNA - Japanese financial assistance of a loan of 11.2 billion yen for the construction of a new bridge across the Volta River on the Eastern Corridor Road, at Volivo, has been approved by Parliament. The project consists of a 540m long and 17.1m wide cable stayed bridge on concrete pier and abutments. It would have three spans: -two outer spans of 96m and a middle span of 280m. The Eastern Corridor Road streches from the Tema Roundabout and ends at Kunlungugu. The North – Eastern Border with Burkina Faso covers a distance of about 695.6km. |

Police arrest Chinese for illegal sale of armsPolice in Kumasi have arrested a Chinese woman for allegedly selling arms and ammunition without lawful authority. Ashanti Region Deputy Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, says 32-year-old housewife, Lucy Tang, was picked up on Friday upon a tip-off. A search of her vehicle revealed four pump action guns, one Sig Sauer rifle and 70 rounds of 380 auto ammunition. She led police to her residence at South Patasi where two foreign-made pistols, 37 pieces of Point 22 ammunition, 20 pieces of Point 25 ammunition and 11 Chinese passports, were found. |

Explosive found in vicinity of deputy minister's residence; security meeting underwaySecurity forces in the Ashanti Region say they have defused a 'powerful explosive' found in the vicinity of the deputy Ashanti Regional Minister Andy Osei Okrah's residence in Kumasi. Journalists have to pay to cover 2016 elections – ECJournalists interested in covering the 2016 general elections are expected to pay in order to be issued with accreditation for the national exercise. The amount to be paid is yet to be determined by the Electoral Commission, a statement by the electoral body said. “Accreditation tags will be given to only those who have formally applied for it and for a fee to be determined by the Commission,” the statement signed by Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, Head of Communications at EC, said on Monday. |
