NDC Manifesto: NPP missing from their Capitalist path - Asiedu Nketia

The Opposition New Patriotic Party is disillusioned and missing from their Capitalist orientation, General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said.

According to him, the NPP appears to be diverting from their original ideals of a private sector-led state.

Speaking at the NDC manifesto launch in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region, General Mosquito, as he is popularly known said the NPP cannot win the fight of providing social amenities for the larger populace against the NDC.

I respect “impartial” Togbe Afede – Nana Addo

A former mayor of Accra and a leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Stanley Nii Adjiri-Blankson has declared the opposition presidential candidate’s reverence for the paramount chief of the Asogli Traditional area, Togbe Afede XIV.

According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo has so much confidence in Togbe Afede for his open-mindedness and development orientation, stating that, “Nana believes in transparent development just as Togbe is doing for his people. And he wants to rely on the wise counsel of such chiefs to transform this country, when he comes into power in 2017.”

Founder Rawlings conspicuously missing at NDC manifesto launch

Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Jerry John Rawlings was conspicuously missing at the party’s 2016 manifesto launch in Sunyani on Saturday, September 17.

No reason whatsoever was given for the absence of Ghana’s longest-serving head of state at his party’s event.

His daughter, Zanetor, who is contesting the 2016 elections on the party’s ticket in the Klottey Korle Constituency, was however present.

NDC national executives optimistic of resounding victory

Sunyani, Sept. 17, GNA - The national executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have given the assurance that the party would win the December 7general election with a larger margin of votes.

They predicted a landslide victory of 57 per cent as they took turn to address thousands of NDC members, supporters and sympathisers at the launching of the Party's Election 2016 Manifesto on Saturday in Sunyani.

According to them, it would take 20 years for the Party to regain power if it succumbs to defeat to the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)

NDC supporters defy downpour to attend manifesto launch

Sunyani, Sept. 17, GNA - Thousands of supporters and sympathisers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday defied torrential rains to exhibit their loyalty and commitment, as the Party launches its Election 2016 manifesto at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

Although President John Dramani Mahama is expected to launch the manifesto around 1400 hours, as at 0630 hours the venue has been filled to capacity.

Mahama launches NDC’s 2016 manifesto

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2016 manifesto ahead of the 2016 general elections.

The President launched the manifesto in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region today [Saturday].

The NDC is now the second party after the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) to have launched their policy document with three months to go to the polls. The ceremony at the Sunyani Coronation Park in the Brong Ahafo Region was graced by thousands of supporters of the party from across the country.

NPP is a wounded elephant fighting in desperation – Bagbin

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress, Alban Bagbin, has described the New Patriotic Party as a wounded elephant that is only fighting in desperation and urged NDC supporters to capitalise on that to vote it into the bush.

Speaking at the launch of the 2016 manifesto launch in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region Saturday, Mr Bagbin however asked the NDC not to be complacent in this year’s December 7 elections.

The National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Portuphy, is convinced the incumbent has won the elections already, but says members of the party would have to avoid complacency, and work hard to seal the victory.

Cocobod distributes 110 million cocoa seedlings in two years

Kumasi, Sept 16, GNA – Cocobod has within the last two years distributed a total of 110 million hybrid cocoa seedlings to farmers across the nation as part of scale up effort to boost production levels.

Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni, the Chief Executive, said four million permanent shade tree seedlings were also supplied during the period.

This was contained in an address read for him at the 22nd annual delegates’ conference of the Kuapa Kokoo Co-operative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union Limited in Kumasi.

Johnson, Stein fail to qualify for first debate

Washington (CNN)Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party nominee Jill Stein will not participate in the first presidential debate, and their running mates will not be in the vice presidential debate, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced Friday.

The decision means Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump will be the only two candidates on the stage on September 26, and Tim Kaine and Mike Pence, their respective running mates, will be the only participants on October 4.

GII launches report on corruption risk in forestry sector

Accra, Sept. 15, GNA - The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) on Thursday launched a report on corruption risk and governance assessment research under a crafted policy dubbed: “Reducing emissions from deforestations and forest degradation (REDD+).

The report which was studied in three districts and Greater Accra, Ashanti and Northern Regions seeks to bring to bare some of the key indicators that influence corruption in the forestry sector.

REDD+ is a policy championed and spearheaded by GII to help bring to halt land-use related emissions from developing countries.

Ghana ready to use Compact funds to address poverty

Accra, Sept. 15, GNA – Ghana has met the conditions to, from October, start accessing the first tranche of $279 million under the Ghana Power Compact to transform the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) into an effective, credible power distribution company, while strengthening the entire energy system.

Under the Second Compact, signed in August 2014, the country is to receive a total of $498.3 million grant from the United States Government, through the Millennium Challenge Corporation, over five years. Ghana is complementing it with $37.4m.

Ghana now second best in Africa in latest FIFA Rankings

Ghana has overtaken Ivory Coast to become Africa’s second best side in the latest ranking released by FIFA on Thursday.

The Black Stars, who have 749 points, overtook the Elephants (748 points) on the global and continental ranking to occupy the 35th place in the global ranking even though the two countries did not play any competitive matches in the month under review.

Ghana will now set their sights on gaining the first place in Africa as leaders Algeria in 32nd position (with 781 points) are just three places above.

Hillary Clinton to release additional medical records

Hillary Clinton will release additional medical information this week, a spokesman said Monday, after her campaign was criticized for waiting to reveal that she had pneumonia.

The 68-year-old Clinton left early from a Sept. 11 ceremony in New York City on Sunday morning, looking unsteady and requiring support to enter a van. The Democratic presidential nominee's doctor later said she was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday and got overheated at the event, but was "recovering nicely."
