From all indications, he was everything that a wife wanted to see in a husband. And as she cried for her soul mate, so also have some of us shed tears for him as a friend, affable and warm in character. Indeed, one of the most recent deaths that has moved me so close to tears is that of the former Vice President. He was someone I would describe as a distant friend in that when circumstances brought us nearer, we exchanged pleasantries. |

Police arrest Chinese for illegal sale of armsPolice in Kumasi have arrested a Chinese woman for allegedly selling arms and ammunition without lawful authority. Ashanti Region Deputy Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, says 32-year-old housewife, Lucy Tang, was picked up on Friday upon a tip-off. A search of her vehicle revealed four pump action guns, one Sig Sauer rifle and 70 rounds of 380 auto ammunition. She led police to her residence at South Patasi where two foreign-made pistols, 37 pieces of Point 22 ammunition, 20 pieces of Point 25 ammunition and 11 Chinese passports, were found. |

Osafo Maafo, Atta Akyea, Ursula missing in Akufo-Addo's 19-member CabinetPresident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has submitted to Parliament a list of 19 Ministers who will make up his Cabinet Tuesday. The President’s action is in fulfilment of Article 76(1) of the 1992 Constitution which enjoins him to select some Ministers to form his Cabinet. The Article states that, “There shall be a cabinet which shall consist of the President, the Vice President and not less than ten and not more than nineteen Ministers of State.” It did not state which Ministerial portfolio should be included in the Cabinet of any government. |

Makola ‘Tax Clinic’ targets 200 TIN applicants by end of weekMakola small taxpayer office of the Ghana Revenue Authority, (GRA) said it is targeting 200 people to register for the Tax Identification Number (TIN) by the end of this week. EC to declare results of December elections 72 hours after close of pollsResults of presidential and parliamentary elections would be announced within three days of casting of the ballot, the EC has announced. EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, is confident the use of manual and electronic transmission of results will enable the Commission collate and declare results within 72 hours. The Commission has been evaluating documents of telecom companies bidding for Virtual Private Network. The secured network will enable results to be transmitted from 275 Collation Centers to the head office of the Electoral Commission. |

Double-track removes pressure to secure GH¢1bn for infrastructure dev't – Education MinisterThe Minister of Education, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, says the double-track system, which government intends to roll out in September this year at the Senior High School (SHS) level, will save the nation at least a billion Ghana cedis. He suggests that although the government will eventually spend money to expand infrastructure to deal with the challenges brought on by the free SHS policy, the double-track system will, for instance, remove the pressure to rush through obtaining the funds and putting up school buildings. Parliament approves Oppong Nkrumah, 5 others as ministersParliament has approved the nomination of Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as the Information Minister. Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Evans Opoku Bobie, Gender Minister Cynthia Morrison, Upper East Regional Minister Paulina Abayage, and two other Deputy Ministers have also been approved by the House. Akufo-Addo postpones naming ministerial appointees; begs for timePresident-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, has postponed the presentation of a list of proposed ministers who will serve in his government to his party’s highest decision-making body. Nana Akufo-Addo was expected to submit the list to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Executive Committee (NEC) for review, however, at a meeting Thursday, December 15, 2016, he could not provide the list. Another meeting between Nana Akufo-Addo and the NEC has been scheduled, Joy News sources say. |
