Akufo-Addo condemns ‘despicable’ Manchester bombing

President Nana Akufo-Addo has condemned the Manchester Arena terror attack describing it as "despicable and cowardly acts."

He expressed shock at the attack which left 22 people dead including an eight-year-old girl and injuring over 59 people at Manchester Arena, at the end of a concert by US singer Ariana Grande..

The President tweeted Tuesday saying, “Shocked and saddened by yesterday’s terror attack in Manchester, resulting in the deaths of 22 people and injuries to 59. . .

If private sector fails under this gov't then it is Ghana's fate - Akufo-Addo

Government says businesses now have their best chance to succeed because their ambition is matched by a government which is private sector focused.

In his preliminary remarks at the opening of 2017 CEO's Summit Monday, Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo told business leaders, fate has presented them a government that has a "tireless desire" to see them succeed.

Delivering an address on behalf of President Nana Akufo-Addo, the Senior Minister was happy to tell a "true story" to dramatise his belief that if corporate Ghana fails, then it must have been written in the stars.

The $150m mystery: Three Ghana Gas helicopters missing?

Although government has paid $150m for three helicopters for Ghana Gas Company, the whereabouts of the choppers remains a mystery, the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has revealed.

It is not known whether the helicopters have been delivered or missing.

"I have asked about the helicopters but there are no answers forth coming” Dr Steve Manteaw who is a member of the committee said Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Tuesday.

$1.2m kickback scandal: Trade Ministry requests forensic audit

he Ministry of Trades and Industry is set to begin a forensic audit into the alleged $1.2 million scandal that has hit the former Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority.

Dr George Crentsil has been cited in a damning investigative report that alleges that he collected $1.2 million kickback from a contractor undertaking construction work for the Authority.

Soldiers protecting Galamsey operators – Amewu

The Lands and Natural Resources Minister, John Peter Amewu has accused some personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces High command of providing cover for galamsey operators in hard-hit areas.

He alleged the said military command has without authorization, deployed personnel to protect galamsey operators in parts of the Ashanti region where his team is touring.

In an interview with Citi News, John Peter Amewu called for an immediate probe into the matter.

Any soldier found protecting illegal miners will be dealt with - Defence Minister

Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul has ordered the Chief of Defence Staff to immediately launch investigations into reports that some military officers are providing security for illegal miners.

He said the military has not officially ordered any such acts and the culprits should be made to face the full rigours of the law if found culpable.

President returns from 3-nation tour

The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s visit to Senegal, Guinea and Cape Verde as productive.

Guinea join Ghana in U-17 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals

Guinea joined Ghana in the semi-finals of the Under 17 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon after a 0-0 draw between both sides in their final match of Group A in Libreville.

The point was enough for Guinea to finish as group runners-up and secure a place at the World Cup in India in October.

In the other Group A game, Cameroon beat hosts Gabon 1-0 in Port Gentil courtesy of a goal from Stephane Thierry Zobo.

The result was not enough for Cameroon to progress, ending the tournament in third place in the standings, ahead of Gabon who had already been eliminated.

Ericsson Technology In Ghana

Multinational networking and telecommunications giant, Ericsson on Thursday showcased in Ghana some advanced technology it had developed to help telecom companies and others who provide Information Communication Technology services, better serve their customers.

The company in February 2017 launched the technology at the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona, Spain.

According to them, their cutting edge technology is a product of six years of researching into the changing trends within the technology sector.

Eni launches OCTP production, Ghana

Eni has started first production from its Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project, offshore Ghana.

The project, which comprises the Sankofa Main, Sankofa East and Gye-Nyame fields, about 60km off Ghana, was completed in just two and a half years, and three months ahead of schedule, according to Eni.

Starlets face familiar foe in semi-finals

Ghana Black Starlets will face Niger in the semi-finals of the u-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Port Gentil.

The game will be the third meeting both sides in the space of a month after Ghana beat their counterparts twice in a double header with a 2-0 margin.

The Stalets have caught the eye of many progressing to the semis in fine fashion scoring nine and conceeding none. Their counterparts finished second in their group scoring four and conceeding four.

Ghana's debt stock hits GHS127 billion - BoG

Latest economic and financial data released by the Central Bank puts the country's debt stock at GHS127 billion at the end of March this year.

After it met on Friday to review the health of the economy, the data showed that debt has increased from around GHS122 in December 2016 to GHS127 billion.

This represents an increase of GHS5 billion in the debt stock in three months but sources close to government indicate the increase was not as a result of fresh borrowings.

Ridge Hospital Medical Director at war with Health Minister over dismissal

The Medical Director of the Ridge Hospital says he will not vacate his position hours after he was dismissed by the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu on Wednesday.

Dr Thomas Awuni Naba told Joy News’ Hannah Odame Thursday, the Minister has no right to dismiss him.

“The only person who can terminate my appointment is Ghana Health Council...I still have three years,” he said.

The Health Minister is reported to have dismissed the Medical Director of the Ridge Hospital days to the official opening of the hospital renamed the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

Finance Minister sets condition for IMF programme extension

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta says Ghana’s program with the International Monetary Funds (IMF) would only be extended if the country fails to meet all the targets by end of next year.

This is in response to reports that government is currently negotiating with the Fund to extend the program, a development that has been confirmed by World Bank country representative Henry Kerali.

Sources say the push for extension has been influenced by fears that Ghana cannot implement all the needed reforms by April 2018.

US Embassy in Ghana 'begging' to pay power bills of 2 years

The United States Embassy in Accra is literally begging the national power supply company to sit with them so that they will settle unpaid bills of 2 years.

The Embassy took to their twitter handle to explain circumstances surrounding its alleged indebtedness to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Ghana’s sector minister had made comments to the effect that the Embassy owed the ECG, ‘‘The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has not refused to pay any electricity bills. We have been asking for official bills,’‘ one of the tweets read.
