CID Calls Bluff Of NDC MPs

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has said that it has not suspended any investigations into allegation of double salaries received by some National Democratic Congress (NDC) former ministers who were also MPs.

That response followed a claim by the minority MPs that the CID boss had embarrassed them by inviting them over the issue.

Mubarak wasn’t denied Palestine entry – Israeli Amb.

The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Ami Mehl, has denied claims that the Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, was denied a visa to enter Palestine.

The lawmaker, who was invited by the Palestinian Authority to give a speech in Ramallah, alleged that his entry permit to Palestine was cancelled at the last minute just when he was about crossing the border into Palestine.

Parliament approves $50m to complete UG Medical Centre

Parliament has approved $50 million for the completion of the remaining works at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).

According to the Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, although the centre looked complete from the outside, there was much more work to be done to make it fully functional.

Addressing a news conference to commemorate this year’s World Health Day in Accra on Wednesday, he cited, as an example, the absence of a back-up generating set as a major obstacle to the opening of the facility.

Akufo-Addo launches 7-year devt plan

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday launched the seven-year Coordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development policies of the government, saying the agenda for job creation, prosperity and equal opportunity for all was on course.

He said a number of key initiatives captured under the agenda had been implemented and that the rest would be rolled out soon.

Deputy Sports Minister, Acting NSA DG suspended over visa scandal

The president has suspended from office the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports as well as the Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority.

The suspension which takes immediate effect is in reaction to the visa scandal which has rocked the country in the wake of the Commonwealth games currently underway in Australia.

Ofori-Atta breached processes in issuance of $2.25bn bond – CHRAJ

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has found that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, breached certain processes in the issuance of the government’s $2.25bn bond earlier this year.

CHRAJ, in its investigation of a conflict of interest allegation leveled against Ken Ofori Atta by a known member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Brogya Genfi, said although it found no concrete evidence on conflict of interest against the Minister, he [Ken Ofori-Atta] breached several procedures.

Former President Mahama appeals for peace in Liberia

Accra, Dec 26, GNA - Former President John Dramani Mahama, Head of ECOWAS Election Observation Mission to Liberia has met two candidates with a call on them to exhibit maximum collaboration for peaceful and credible elections.

He reiterated at separate meetings with the presidential flag-bearers, who emerged from the inconclusive first round balloting of 10th October that “As I have always said, the responsibility for a successful election is the primary responsibility of the citizens of a country international observers only facilitate the process.”

Nana Addo commends George Weah, Boakai for peaceful polls

President Nana Addo has congratulated former footballer, George Weah on his election as Liberia’s President.

Mr. Weah beat his opponent Joseph Boakai with more than 60% of the votes in Tuesday’s run-off election.

While expressing the hope that the just ended polls will lead to an improvement of living standards of Liberians, the President observed that the election had also “strengthened the frontiers of democracy in Liberia”

Corruption Trial Not For Political Gains – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that trial of state officials suspected to have been involved in corrupt activities is not politically motivated.

The president’s comment comes after a former board chairman of the National Communication Authority (NCA) under the Mahama administration Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie and four others were arraigned in an Accra Commercial High Court last week for wilfully causing financial loss to the State.

The five have also been slapped with 16 other charges.

The American government says it is committed to double its trade volumes with Ghana via continuous investments to add value to Ghana’s exports.

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson explains that this should increase Ghana’s trade volume with the US from the current 1.2 billion dollars to 2.4 billion dollars.

Former Health Minister in the erstwhile National Democratic Congress government, Alex Segbefia says the decision by the party leadership to expand its electoral college, is partly to blame for the embarrassing defeat the party suffered in the 2016 elections.

Accra mayor rallies support for ‘cleanest city’ agenda
