The US government has threatened to cut about $500 million in private investments intended to help shore-up the dipping fortunes of the Electricity Company of Ghana, if the government remains unconcerned about curbing the threat of modern forms of slavery.
Ghana’s trade volume with the US is expected to double within the next three years following the increased trade engagements between the two countries.
Accra, July 4, GNA - President John Dramani Mahama has, in commemoration of Ghana’s 56th Republican Anniversary, granted amnesty to 896 prisoners.
A statement from Flagstaff House Communications said the freed prisoners include 813 first offenders, 16 seriously ill and 63 aged (70 years and above).
Others are special cases made up of one double amputee and three prisoners on death row who had their sentences commuted to life imprisonment.
