Mid-week stock market index fell by 0.5 per cent

At the GSE

Accra, Aug. 25, GNA - Trading at the Ghana Stock Market session ended with transactions recorded in 12 equities with six price changes.

As a result the benchmark Ghana Stock Exchange composite index rose by 0.08 per cent to close at 1,806.4 points.

The GSE Financial Stock Index also inched up by 0.1 per cent to close at 1,693.5 points, market analysis paper made available to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said.

Highlight achievements of government, MMDAs urged

Don't allow politicians to foment conflict - Peace Council

Mr Francis Azuumah, National Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council, has appealed to the Regional Early Warning and Response Teams of the Council not to show any bias towards politicians seeking to foment trouble.

He urged the teams to put aside political considerations and be bold to point out to them if they are causes of conflicts in the communities. Mr Azuumah said this at the inauguration of the Upper West Regional Early Warning and Response Board held in Wa.

World Bank provides funds for Tatale-Yendi road - President Mahama

Accra, Aug. 25, GNA - Government has secured funding from the World Bank to construct a bituminous double surface dressing road from Tatale to Zabzugu to Yendi in the Northern Region, President Mahama has said.

He said proposals had been approved and now going through the tendering process for work to begin on the 80-kilometre road up to Natchamba which shared boundary with the Republic of Togo.

President Mahama said this when he addressed party supporters at Tatale in the Tatale-Sangule District as part of his four-day campaign tour of the Northern Region.

No budget overruns this election year - Minister

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA – Government is committed to ensure that there are no budget overruns this election year, Cassiel Ato Forson, Deputy Minister of Finance has said.

He said government is determined to sustain fiscal discipline while investing prudently in infrastructure and social development.

Mr Forson was speaking at the stakeholders’ consultation workshop on the 2017 budget in Accra.

The workshop was to solicit inputs from stakeholders in the planning, formulating, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of the national budget.

Ghana producer inflation rises to 10.3 percent in July

ACCRA, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Ghana's producer price inflation (PPI) rose to 10.3 percent year-on-year in July from 7.6 percent the month before, driven by rising gold prices, the statistics office said on Wednesday.

PPI is a major component of consumer inflation, which has for years remained above government targets. The West African commodity exporter is implementing a three-year aid deal with the International Monetary Fund to restore fiscal balance.

PBC shareholders demand recapitalization of company

Minority shareholders and the Board of the Produce Buying Company Limited (PBC), have renewed calls for a recapitalization of the company.

This follows PBC’s admission that the continuous reliance on bank loans is taking a toll on the company’s finances.

“The company’s overreliance on borrowings from the market to supplement funds for purchases still presents it with a cost outlay too heavy to bear,” PBC’s CEO, Maxwell Kojo Atta-Krah said.

Health Ministry to investigate striking lab scientists’ concerns

The Ministry of Health has set up a committee to investigate the demands by the striking Ghana Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists (GABMLS).

The members of GABMLS laid down their tools on August 22, to highlight their displeasure with government’s non-implementation of the National Health Laboratory policy which they say will help raise the quality of laboratory science practice in the country.

GABMLS has said the Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia, should be blamed for the consequences of the strike, including lives that would be lost as a result.
