WC: Govt'll ensure Stars qualify – Minister

The Government of Ghana is putting in more efforts to ensure that the Black Stars of Ghana make it to the World Cup in Russia and also win the 2017 Cup of Nations in Gabon, Minister of Youth and Sports Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has said.

Ghana will play Uganda on Friday October 7 at the Tamale Sports Stadium in a bid to qualify for a fourth straight World Cup. The team will feature in the Cup of Nations in Gabon in 2017.

Stock market closes September on a positive trend

Accra, Oct. 4, GNA – The Ghana Stock Exchange (GES) closed the September with yields on treasury securities remaining virtually unchanged across the board.

Bids tendered for the 91 day bill rose from GH¢653.49 million to GH¢873.60 million with government accepting the entire amount at a weighted average interest rate of 22.87 per cent.

Demand for the 182-day bill rose as bids tendered increased from GH¢328.30 million to GH¢ 439.80 million with government accepting the entire amount at a weighted average interest rate of 24.69 per cent.

IMF warns of full-blown financial, economic crises in Ghana if...

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is warning of a full-blown financial crisis for Ghana if aggressive measures are not taken to check government’s rising debts.

The Fund gave the warning in its staff report sent to its Executive Board requesting it pass Ghana’s performance under the third review of the program.

According to the IMF staff, their fears are based on some tight financing conditions facing government as a result of challenges with revenue mobilization, a development that could result in some overruns in the coming weeks, as the election season approaches.

Ghana finds potential HIV cure

The Centre of Awareness has disclosed that it has found a potential cure for HIV/AIDS following ten years of research into plant medicines in Ghana.

According to the founder of the centre, Dr Samuel Ato Duncan, the drug named COA has been scientifically tested and seen to be efficacious and safe for the treatment of HIV/AIDS.

Dr Duncan disclosed this at a presentation on the drug at the Physicians and Surgeons auditorium in Accra on Wednesday, 5 October 2016.

German Ambassador designate to Ghana, Mr Christoph Retzlaff

Ghana is the third largest trade partner for Germany, which is an active global partner. The German Ambassador Designate to Ghana, Mr Christoph Retzlaff, who disclosed this, said development cooperation was one of the most important areas of German-Ghana relations.

The Ambassador was speaking in an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic prior to the celebration of the German Unity Day, which falls today. The day is being celebrated on the theme: "Building Bridges".

The Ambassador said the relations between the two countries were strong in various areas.

Producer Inflation rises to 11.1 per cent in July

Year on year inflation

Accra, Sept. 29, GNA - Year on year industry inflation (PPI) for August rose to 11.1 per cent, representing an increase of 0.7 percentage point over the 10.4 per cent recorded in July.

That is, ex-factory prices of goods and services for all industry increased on average by 11.1 percent in August 2016 relative to the price level recorded in August 2015.

Month-on-month inflation change in producer price index between July and August stood at -3.3 per cent.
