THE EARLIEST humans in the west Africa region were hunter-gatherers. Groups then began settling in small communities with the development of agriculture and animal- rearing. Around AD1000, larger population centres formed.

By the time the Portuguese arrived in the 15th century, they found large African kingdoms already established.

President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, presented his first state of the nation address to Parliament in accordance with Article 67 of the Constitution.

The President touched on issues ranging from the economy, education, health and energy among others.

Despite painting a gloomy picture of the economy as bequeathed to him from the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC), the President said he would ensure that the Ghanaian economy does not collapse under his watch.

Accra, Feb. 21, GNA - Parliament has suffered a major blow to its public image due largely to its recent appointments committee bribery allegations, a report by the Centre for Media Analysis (CMA), an independent media monitoring agency, said on Tuesday.
The report, compiled through CMA’s strategic analysis of print media news contents, called on the leadership of the august house and its communication managers to put strategic and pragmatic measures in place to re-affirm its renowned respect and image.

Ghana is arranging for additional reserves to intervene sooner than planned in order to prop the local cedi currency which has weakened to new lows this week, two Central Bank sources said on Thursday.

The cedi has been under pressure since early February .

This was so after the new government announced it had uncovered contract arrears of $1.6 billion and a budget deficit close to double digits, compared to the 2016 target of 5.25 per cent of gross domestic product.

Confronting the 4 billion dollars loss to corruption should create enough buffers to meet the infrastructure development agenda of the NPP government, Finance Minister Nominee, Ken Ofori Atta has said.

An IAEA team of experts has started an Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) mission in Ghana. The mission will last eight days and it will evaluate the status of major infrastructure issues against the Agency’s Milestones Approach for the introduction of nuclear power.
