Ghana is a good test for US — Bruce Arena

The United States have now confirmed an international friendly with Ghana in July in preparation for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup which takes place across the United States from July 6-21.

The United States, who beat Ghana 2-1 in the opening group game of the Brazil 2014 World Cup, will play Ghana for the first time on Ghana's Republic Day on July 1 at the Pratt and Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut, a week before they open their 2017 Gold Cup campaign against Panama on July 8.

Ghana, Burkina Faso pledge to strengthen bilateral ties

The governments of Ghana and Burkina Faso have pledged to work towards strengthening the ties of co-operation that exist between them, after the Presidents of the two countries expressed satisfaction with the current state of the relations between them.

In a joint communiqué issued at the end of the 2-day official visit to Burkina Faso by President Akufo-Addo, it was resolved that the two countries reinforce their co-operation in the areas of railway transport, road transport, agriculture, water, security, trade, works and housing and energy.

Mahama opens Obasanjo Centre for Governance in Abuja

Former President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday chaired a ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria, to inaugurate the Olusegun Obasanjo Centre for Good Governance and Development at the National Open University of Nigeria.

A statement from the office of Mr Mahama said the ceremony, which was also attended by a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Mukhtar, was an opportunity to honour the former Nigerian President for his commitment and contribution to the promotion of education in Nigeria.

Gov't committed to passing Right to Information Bill - Hamid

Government is committed to the passage of the Right to Information (RTI) Bill and that before the end of this year, it will be passed into Law, the Information Minister, Mr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has said.

Speaking at this year’s World Press Freedom Day at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra on Wednesday, Mr Hamid said the bill will be placed before Parliament when it resumes sitting.

Nationwide blackout: Power expected by 10am

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has given assurance that power will be restored across the country by 10am.

A statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Albert Kwesi Quainoo said Wednesday night’s nationwide blackout was a result of a surge that resulted in a shutdown of generators in the power system.

The statement noted that details of the cause of the outage would be communicated on the completion of preliminary investigations.

Akufo-Addo wants Ghana-Togo borders open 24hrs

President Nana Akufo-Addo is advocating a 24-hour opening of the Ghana and Togo borders in a bid which he said will boost trade and tourism between the countries.

He said the opening of the borders will give true meaning to the ECOWAS Protocols on Free Movement of Goods and Persons and will spur on progress and prosperity for both nationals.

The President said it will ensure that the peoples of the two nations reap the economic benefits thereof.

Labour unions question gov't's 'ghost names'

Labour unions including the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) have questioned Government’s claim that it has saved millions of cedis by cleaning the public payroll and removing ghost names.

Their scepticism follows complaints by some of their members whose names have been mistakenly removed from the payroll.

The GMA, for instance, say the exercise has been riddled with errors.

The Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs) has called on the government to regulate the growing activities of black market petroleum dealers which it says are pushing Ghana towards a petroleum crisis.

Akufo-Addo visits Togo, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire this week

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday left Ghana for Togo as part of a series of visits to Ghana’s three neighouring countries this week.

A statement issued by Mr Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the presidency, said the visit was to afford the President the opportunity to formally introduce himself as the new Ghanaian leader to the governments and people of the neighbouring countries.

The visit is also to enable the President explore and deepen bilateral relations with them, and reiterate Ghana’s full commitment to the ECOWAS project.

Ghana to face USA in July 1 friendly

The Black Stars will play against the United States in an international friendly on July 1 at the Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut.

The match forms part of the United States’ preparations for their hosting of the Gold Cup tournament which starts on July 7.

The match was announced by the United States Soccer Federation in April but the choice of venue was confirmed on May 1.
US coach Bruce Arena says that the Black Stars will give them needed test ahead of the tournament.

Adopt productive attitudes during work hours - Akufo-Addo

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has asked all workers to adopt productive work attitudes in order to fast-track Ghana's development.

Akufo-Adoo during his May Day address today (May 1) at the Independence Square lamented how a section of the Ghanaian workforce after arriving at work every day spend the first hour at work praying and tardying about instead of working.

The President noted that such workers often displayed gross disrespect towards their employers and work hours.

Workers to mark May Day

UK Visa Fraud: My daughter tricked me and overstayed – Former MP

The former Member of Parliament for Asunafo South Constituency, George Boakye, has said that his 37-year-old daughter tricked him into taking her to London under the pretext of going to see her uncle, but disappeared on their arrival in the UK.

According to him, although he knew he was being irresponsible by not reporting his daughter’s disappearance once he couldn’t find her, he feared a report to security officials would have her incarcerated.

The Gambian President, Adama Barrow will today [Friday] pay a day’s visit to Ghana where he is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff house.

US to invest $38 million in Ghana’s agric sector

The American Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Robert Jackson, has revealed that his country intends to invest considerable resources in the agriculture and health sectors in Ghana.

He made the declaration during a working visit to the Brong Ahafo Region on Tuesday.
