Accra, Aug. 23, GNA - The Board of Directors of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) has, in consultation with the National Media Commission (NMC), appointed Mr Mohammed Nurudeen Issahaq as Acting General Manager of the Agency.

His appointment took effect from July 4, 2016, following the departure of Mr Bernard Otabil, the former General Manager who has proceeded on an extended leave ahead of his resignation from the Agency effective September 4 this year.

Mr Issahaq who has been the GNA’s Supervising Chief Editor since March 2013, has therefore been asked to hold the fort until a substantive General Manager is appointed.

Mr Issahaq first joined the GNA as a Reporter in January 1981, after obtaining a Diploma in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).

He subsequently pursued an MA in Journalism Studies course at the University of Wales, Cardiff (United Kingdom).

In the 2007/2008 academic year, Mr Issahaq gained admission to Lancaster University, also in the UK, where he obtained a Master’s degree in International Relations.

In the GNA hierarchy, he rose through the ranks to become Editor and Regional Manager for the Upper East. He was moved to the Agency’s headquarters in Accra in April 2009 to become Head of the Home News Desk, a position he held until March 2013, when he assumed the office of Supervising Chief Editor.
