Winnie Mandela: ANC Needs Fresh Leadership

Nelson Mandela’s former wife has said that South Africa requires a “whole layer of fresh leadership” and called on senior figures in the African National Congress (ANC) to deal with allegations of corruption.

Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who is herself a member of the ANC’s highest decision-making body, said that the party required “introspection” in order to determine “where we went so wrong” since leading the campaign against apartheid, the political system of racial segregation that ended in South Africa in 1994.

A police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black motorist in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been charged with manslaughter, a prosecutor has said.

Officer Betty Shelby shot and killed Terence Crutcher last week while he was standing next to his broken-down car.

In Charlotte, North Carolina, a curfew went into effect to prevent a third night of violence after a black man was shot dead by a black police officer.

Keith Lamont Scott's family deny police allegations that he was armed.

Mahama touts Ghana’s successes at UN General Assembly

“I am proud of my country. We are variously called the ‘model of democracy’ in Africa or the ‘beacon of democracy’,” he told his colleague Heads of State who gathered for the second day of the general debate of the UN General Assembly in New York yesterday.

Serena Williams' coach targets 30 grand slams despite 'very bad season'

(CNN)Despite her 35th birthday fast approaching and niggling injuries possibly shelving what's left of her 2016 season, Serena Williams still retains grand career ambitions, according to her longtime coach.

Remarkably, the American tennis star has been set a target of 30 career singles grand slams.

"I know people are going to be very much focused on the 23rd (grand slam), I'm more focused on the 30th," Patrick Mouratoglou, who has been coaching Williams since 2012, told CNN at the unveiling of his new tennis academy on the French Riviera.

The president lamented about challenges some Africans encounter while migrating to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea and also used the opportunity to court support for the continent.

President Mahama also highlighted some of the progress made by African government with regards to governance, free speech, technology among others.

Govt, GMA clash over UG Teaching Hospital

The Ghana Medical Association has dismissed claims by the National Democratic Congress government that it constructed the University of Ghana Teaching Hospital.

President John Dramani Mahama during the highlights of the NDC manifesto in Accra touted the construction of the Hospital among other health facilities as part of his government’s achievements.

But the General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Frank Serebuor in an interview on Abusua FM in Kumasi stated that government only served as a loan guarantor for the construction of the Hospital.

US election 2016: George HW Bush 'to vote for Clinton'

US Republican ex-President George HW Bush will vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton in November, US news website Politico reports.

Mr Bush allegedly made the pledge to Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, niece to US ex-President John F Kennedy.

The former president's office has not confirmed the report, with a spokesman saying he was checking.

Mr Bush, who held office from 1989 until 1993, has not endorsed Republican candidate Donald Trump. . . . . . .
