GCNET pays GH¢25m in dividends to government

The Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNET) has presented a total of 25 million cedis in dividends for 2015, to the government of Ghana for its share in the company.

The payment was concluded when the company presented a 10 million cedis interim dividend cheque to the Ministry of Finance on Friday.

President Mahama calls on BRRI to support construction industry

Kumasi, July 9, GNA - President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday advised the Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) of the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research to partner stakeholders in construction to ensure quality roads and other development projects.

He said the BRRI, which was established years ago at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to facilitate the construction of quality roads and other projects, had the expertise to transform the construction industry and allay the fears of Ghanaians on poor road works.

Election 2016: MPs divided over new CI which seeks to abolish no-verification no-vote clause

This implies that whilst the CI 75 made explicit instructions for all voters to be verified before voting, which triggered the catch phrase “no verification no vote”, the new document requires all party agents to agree before a voter, who could not be verified, would be allowed to vote.

Some minority Members of Parliament are demanding the withdrawal of a new Electoral Commission Constitutional Instrument (CI) which seeks to indemnify its presiding officers from any form of punishment or prosecution.

Ghana Begins Visa On Arrival For African Union Nationals

Ghana has started a visa-on-arrival scheme at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for all African Union Nationals whose countries do not have a visa-free agreement with the country, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has said in Accra.

“All AU nationals affected by the policy who arrive in the country must have a passport, valid for at least three months from the date of entry; they must have a return ticket or evidence of onward travel; they must show evidence of sufficient funds and proof of accommodation before they are granted visas.

Automatic deletion of NHIS voters' dangerous – Atuguba

The Supreme Court of Ghana cannot order an automatic deletion of persons who registered onto the electoral roll using the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards as a proof of identification because such an order will be dangerous for the constitutional democracy in Ghana, Dr Raymond Atuguba, a senior law lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana has said.

Supreme Court orders EC to delete NHIS registrants from electoral roll

The Supreme Court yesterday ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to delete the 56,739 names it submitted to the court as the list of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registrants on the electoral roll.

In a unanimous decision read by Mr Justice Sule Gbadegbe, the court further ordered the EC to take all the necessary steps to delete other names of persons who registered with NHIS cards but which were not included in the list it presented to the court.

LONDON (AP) — Prime Minister Tony Blair led Britain into an unsuccessful war in Iraq through a mix of flawed intelligence, "wholly inadequate" planning and an exaggerated sense of the U.K.'s ability to influence the United States, according to a damning official report on the conflict that was published Wednesday.

President Mahama grants 896 prisoners amnesty

Accra, July 4, GNA - President John Dramani Mahama has, in commemoration of Ghana’s 56th Republican Anniversary, granted amnesty to 896 prisoners.

A statement from Flagstaff House Communications said the freed prisoners include 813 first offenders, 16 seriously ill and 63 aged (70 years and above).

Others are special cases made up of one double amputee and three prisoners on death row who had their sentences commuted to life imprisonment.
