Ghana presidential fleet 'missing 200 cars'

Ghana's new government is trying to track down more than 200 cars missing from the president's office, a government spokesman has said.

The ruling party counted the cars a month after taking power following victory in December's elections.

After previous transfers of power, state-owned cars have been seized from officials who did not return them.

A minister in the former government said the implied allegation of wrongdoing by his colleagues was false.

London attack: Seven killed in vehicle and stabbing incidents

Six people have been killed and at least 48 injured in a terror incident in London in which three male attackers were shot dead by police.

A white van hit pedestrians on London Bridge at about 22:00 BST on Saturday, then three men got out and stabbed people in nearby Borough Market.

Police said the three men were wearing fake bomb vests.

One of those hurt is a police officer who was stabbed after going to help. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Tulsa shooting: Manslaughter charge for police officer who shot black man

A police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black motorist in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been charged with manslaughter, a prosecutor has said.

Officer Betty Shelby shot and killed Terence Crutcher last week while he was standing next to his broken-down car.

In Charlotte, North Carolina, a curfew went into effect to prevent a third night of violence after a black man was shot dead by a black police officer.

Ghana passes law 'to evict presidents'

Outgoing presidents in Ghana could be forcibly evicted from their official residences if they fail to move out in time, under new laws.

Presidents and vice-presidents will have to hand over official homes and vehicles at least two weeks before the inauguration of a new leader.

Ministers and other officials will have one month to do the same.

With general elections due on 7 December, the law aims to reduce delays in transferring government property.

Nana Akufo-Addo: Ghana corruption probe 'not witch-hunt'

Ghana's President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo says he will set up a special team to investigate corruption but said it would not be a "witch-hunt".

He said his government would distance itself by allowing an independent prosecutor to investigate cases and make its own decisions.

Mr Akufo-Addo defeated incumbent John Dramani Mahama in last week's election.

Mr Mahama has been accused of not tackling a series of corruption scandals.

We're expecting the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to arrive in The Gambia today in an attempt to persuade President Yahya Jammeh to step down after he lost the election.

Mr Buhari is expected to be joined by Liberian leader Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Sierra Leone's Ernest Bai Koroma and Ghana's John Mahama, who himself lost an election last week and has said he will step down as president next month.

After initially accepting defeat, at the end of last week he claimed he no longer accepted the result and asked for a new poll run by a "Godfearing" electoral commission.

South Africa: Jacob Zuma report points to possible corruption

An investigation into South Africa's President Jacob Zuma has found evidence of possible corruption at the top level of his government.

In the report, former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela recommends Mr Zuma establish a judicial commission of inquiry within 30 days.

Mr Zuma is accused of an improper relationship with wealthy businessmen.

He had tried to block the release of the report, but dropped his court bid on Wednesday.

Two Media Firms Shut Down For Inciting Violence In Donkorkrom

Two information centers in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District have been directed to suspend operations for one month after it emerged that they incited violence last month in the district capital.

The August 18 violence led to the ransacking of the Donkorkrom Police Station by irate residents over alleged complicity in crime by an officer.

After a District Security Council (DISEC) meeting on Thursday, September 1, Nhyiraba and Asalam information centers were cited as being used as media to spark the violence.

Anas in that story captured 34 judges on video allegedly taking bribes to compromise justice.

Single digit inflation: Govt to place cap on interest rate

President John Mahama says government may place a cap on interest rate if plans to secure a single digit inflation next year fails.

Ghana last recorded single digit inflation in January 2013, recording 8.8 percent. Inflation for July 2016 was 16.7 percent.

The President who gave the hint at the 15th edition of the Ghana Club 100 said a further decline in inflation will prevent government from placing a cap on the rising interest rate.

France relocates Embassy in Ghana
