British Royals arrive in Accra: Everything you need to know about the historic visit

Today marks the first day of Prince Charles of Wales’ visit to Ghana, the first since 1977. Alongside Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (who is visiting for the first time), the pair plans to tour some parts of Accra and Kumasi throughout the weekend and into Monday before heading to Nigeria on Tuesday morning. Broaden consultation on critical matters - Prof Kwesi Botchwey

The Founder and Executive Chairman of the African Development Policy Initiative (ADPOI), Professor Kwesi Botchwey, has called on the government to broaden the process of consultation over critical matters that affect the public good.

He said there was a need for the government to make the right decisions rather than hasty and expedient ones by creating an atmosphere of inclusiveness, respect and courtesy in national discourse and debates and be tolerant of other people’s views rather than angrily dismissing them.

Businesses urged to incorporate environmental health operations

Accra, Aug. 14, GNA - The Deputy Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Bernice Adiku Heloo has urged stakeholders to incorporate environment health and safety tips into their operations in order to help promote the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

CAF elects Guinea and Ghana officials to FIFA Council

CAIRO -- African football leaders have elected officials from Guinea and Ghana to fill two new seats on the FIFA Council.

The Confederation of African Football says Almamy Kabele Camara and Kwesi Nyantakyi earned enough votes in a four-candidate contest on Thursday.

They will complete a seven-member African delegation at an Oct. 13-14 meeting of the expanded FIFA Council, chaired by president Gianni Infantino.

The meeting in Zurich should begin talks to expand the 2026 World Cup to 40 teams and start the bidding process.

Caf President Ahmad Ahmad allegedly arrested in France

The Caf leader was reportedly taken in on Thursday morning at a hotel in France where he was staying for the Fifa congress
Caf President Ahmad Ahmad has allegedly been arrested by French police at the Berri Hotel in Paris.

The Caf boss was in the European nation to attend the Fifa congress, which brought about Gianni Infantino’s re-election as President of the governing body.

According to Jeune Afrique, Ahmad Ahmad was detained at 8:30am local time and will face the anti-corruption agency's Central Office for Combating Corruption and Financial and Tax Crimes (Oclif).

Call your supporters to order – Mahama to NPP

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his appeal to leaders of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to call their members to order, following reports of attacks on some citizens and state properties.

The Police earlier said they had received reports nationwide that some NPP supporters “are attacking supporters of NDC in various parts of the country.”

The President on Sunday subsequently directed the security agencies to deploy and arrest any person caught in such acts.

Calls for regulatory body for housing

Players in the real estate industry are calling for the creation of a supervisory body to regulate the real estate industry in the country.

The uncle of Captain Maxwell Mahama, young military officer lynched by Denkyira-Obuasi residents on Monday said, the family wants justice to bring a closure to his gruesome killing.

Prof. Fred Mark Bagonluri says it is unfortunate a man who has sworn to defend his country had to die in such a manner.

“A man who decides to save his nation has to die in war, and not murdered by the very citizens that he swore an oath to protect and defend against both internal and external aggression.

“For him to die in this manner challenges my citizenship,” he said.

Capt. Mahama’s killers will pay; Akufo-Addo vows

President Nana Akufo-Addo has condemned the horrific killing of the commanding officer of a military detachment guarding a mine at Denkyira-Obuase in the Central Region.

The president has assured Captain Maxwell Mahama's family that the security agencies will leave no stone unturned in smoking out the perpetrators.

The officer, who was said to have gone for an early morning jogging, was lynched by a mob after they allegedly mistook him for an armed robber because he was in possession of a weapon.

Catholic Bishops says Delta Force's action discredits Ghana

The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC) has condemned the attack on the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court by some members of the Delta Force, a political vigilante group, describing the act as lawlessness that only goes to discredit the country’s hard-won democratic credentials.

The bishops said they had noted with dismay the disregard for the rule of law exhibited by the vigilante group.

China describes Ghana as an important development partner

CHINESE AMBASSADOR CALLS ON INFORMATION MINISTER

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Sun Baohong, has assured the Government of Ghana of that country’s commitment to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Ghana and China.

Her Excellency Ms Baohong noted that Ghana was the second sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic relations with China, the first to receive China and that 5,000 Ghanaian students were, currently, studying in China.

She was speaking during a courtesy call on the Minister for Information, Mr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid in Accra.

Church leaders must ensure security on church premises - Opuni-Frimpong

The current threats and attacks on some churches, especially in neighbouring Burkina Faso, is a wakeup call to church leaders in Ghana to ensure tight security at their places of worship.

Cocobod distributes 110 million cocoa seedlings in two years
