Akufo-Addo tours E/R Thursday

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will embark on a three-day working visit to the Eastern Region from 22 to 24 November 2018.

The visit forms part of the president's commitment to deepen grassroots participation in his government and to also obtain first-hand information from the people, a statement signed by the Eastern Regional Communication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party, David Prah, said.

Akufo-Addo visits Togo, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire this week

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday left Ghana for Togo as part of a series of visits to Ghana’s three neighouring countries this week.

A statement issued by Mr Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the presidency, said the visit was to afford the President the opportunity to formally introduce himself as the new Ghanaian leader to the governments and people of the neighbouring countries.

The visit is also to enable the President explore and deepen bilateral relations with them, and reiterate Ghana’s full commitment to the ECOWAS project.

Akufo-Addo wants Ghana-Togo borders open 24hrs

President Nana Akufo-Addo is advocating a 24-hour opening of the Ghana and Togo borders in a bid which he said will boost trade and tourism between the countries.

He said the opening of the borders will give true meaning to the ECOWAS Protocols on Free Movement of Goods and Persons and will spur on progress and prosperity for both nationals.

The President said it will ensure that the peoples of the two nations reap the economic benefits thereof.

The president, Nana Akufo-Addo is set to announce his first ever ministerial reshuffle but is likely to maintain the number of appointees at 110.

The object of the reshuffle may be to inject freshness in the administration with the president shifting his men and women around with very little casualties.

Akufo–Addo names 212 MMDCEs

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has finally named 212 persons to fill the vacant positions of Chief Executives in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDCEs) across the country.

This was announced by the Minister for Local Government, Hajia Alima Mahama in Accra today [Wednesday].

Speaking on behalf of the President, the Minister called for calm among party members and support for the nominees.

Alan Kyerematen: We’ll establish ten industrial parks across Ghana

Government has revealed plans to anchor industrialization in the country on the establishment of ten new industrial parks.

According to Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, each of the ten regions would have one park with the requisite facilities and flexible land schemes to facilitate the setting up of industries.

This initiative which draws heavily on similar models from Asia, is expected to create thousands of jobs for Ghanaians.

His Excellency Lt. Gen. Joseph Henry Smith (Rtd) on Monday June 20, 2016 presented his Letters of Credence as Ghana’s First High Commissioner to Belize to the Acting Governor General of Belize, H.E. Carlos Perdomo at “Belize House” in Belmopan.

Ambassador Smith presented his Open Letters to the Minister for Natural Resources and Immigration, Senator Godwin Hulse, who stood in for Hon. Wilfred Elrington, Minister for Foreign Affairs who had travelled out of the country.

Ameri denies negotiating new deal; says old deal stands

Management of Ameri Energy has stated that it had no discussions with government with regards to any new negotiations about the Novation of Ameri BOOT Agreement between Ameri Energy and the government of Ghana.

Government laid a renegotiation agreement on the floor of Parliament in July, 2018 for a renegotiation of the Ameri deal which was originally signed in February, 2015.

A proposal which some energy experts and well meaning Ghanaians believe is a wrong move, and have called for the resignation of the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.

AMERI saga: Minority want Bediatuo sacked

The Minority in Parliament is demanding that the President sacks his Executive Secretary, Nana Asante Bediatuo, over the controversial revised AMERI deal that has led to the firing of Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.

They have also called on the police to institute a criminal probe into the processes that led to the review of the deal that was initially signed by the previous John Mahama administration.

Parliament last month froze approval processes for the agreement following concerns the new deal will cost the country about a billion dollars more.

Angry mob besieges EC office in Cape Coast

Angry residents surrounded the Electoral Commission (EC)’s office in Cape Coast on Monday threatening to halt the on-going exercise to re-register National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registrants whose names were deleted.

The exercise, which commenced on Monday, is to enable NHIS registrants whose names were expunged from the electoral roll in accordance with a court order to be re-registered.

The angry mob accused the EC of scheming to disenfranchise them by deleting their names as part of NHIS registrants even when they never registered with the NHIS cards in 2012.

Anthony Joshua could face Wladimir Klitschko in Cardiff in October

A rematch between unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko could take place at Cardiff's Principality Stadium in October.

Briton Joshua stopped Klitschko at Wembley last month to add the WBA world heavyweight title to his IBF crown.

Wales' rugby union team will play at the Principality Stadium for most Saturdays in November and December, but 28 October could be a potential date.

"Talks are ongoing over venues," said Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn.

Anthony Joshua to dominate for a decade after beating Wladimir Klitschko - Duke McKenzie

Anthony Joshua will brush aside Wladimir Klitschko with ease, according to former three-weight world champion Duke McKenzie.

Joshua's IBF heavyweight strap and the vacant WBA 'super' title are on the line when the two heavyweights collide in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium on April 29, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

And McKenzie believes Joshua will comfortably beat Klitschko ahead of a decade of dominance for the London 2012 Olympic gold medallist.

A fight between IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko is "very close", promoter Eddie Hearn says.

On Wednesday, Briton Tyson Fury - who had withdrawn from two scheduled rematches with Ukraine's Klitschko - relinquished his WBA and WBO belts.

That leaves Britain's Joshua and Klitschko free to fight for the WBA and IBF titles in a unification bout.

"It is the big favourite to be the next fight for both," Hearn said.

Anti-graft agency criticises A-G for accepting GHȻ10, 000 Chinese gift

The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has frowned on a decision by the Attorney-General’s Department to accept a GHȻ10,000 grift from the Chinese Mission in Ghana.

According to the GII, the AG’s office should not have taken the money in the midst of the prosecution of some Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining in the country.

“The point is that we are currently at the moment dealing with matters that concern Chinese engaging in illegal mining,” said GII Executive Director, Linda Ofori-Kwafo.

Any soldier found protecting illegal miners will be dealt with - Defence Minister

Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul has ordered the Chief of Defence Staff to immediately launch investigations into reports that some military officers are providing security for illegal miners.

He said the military has not officially ordered any such acts and the culprits should be made to face the full rigours of the law if found culpable.

Apostolic Nunciature marks 40 years’ diplomatic relations with Ghana.

The Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana last Friday held a reception to commemorate its 40 years of diplomatic relations with Ghana.

In attendance were members of the Diplomatic Corps, former President Jerry John John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, traditional rulers, as well as Papal knights and dames.

Article 50 'could be triggered on Tuesday' if Brexit bill passes

Theresa May could trigger article 50, the formal process for leaving the European Union, as early as Tuesday if the Brexit bill passes late on Monday, government sources say.

The legislation, which passed through the House of Commons unamended, is due to be debated by MPs on Monday. They will have to decide whether to accept a pair of amendments added by peers – on the rights of European Union citizens and granting parliament a meaningful vote at the end of the process.
