NDC polls: Sammy Gyamfi floors Fred Agbenyo by whopping 4,000 votesMr Sammy Gyamfi has defeated Mr Fred Agbenyo in the National Democratic Congress’ internal polls to become the new Director of Communication of the main opposition party. Mr Gyamfi, a lawyer and former TEIN president of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), beat the incumbent Deputy Communication Director by 4,000 votes at the party’s National Delegates Congress at the International Trade Fair Centre, Accra. According to provisional results, Mr Gyamfi polled 6,255 votes whereas his only contender in the two-man race, Mr Agbenyo polled 2,255 votes. |

Policy rate could go down further – AddisonGhana could cut interest rates early next year if inflation continues to drift lower, the central bank governor said on Tuesday. “I could easily see the policy rate going further down,” Ernest Addison told Reuters on the sidelines of a banking conference. Asked how soon the 17 per cent rates could be cut, he added: “Our next meeting is in January and after that we have another meeting in March, so, in between now and March.” |

Ayew is Black Stars captainBlack Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, has named André Ayew as the permanent captain of Ghana’s senior national football team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. This followed a meeting with the top brass of the Normalisation Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after which approval and full backing were given to Appiah’s plans. Ayew replaces Asamoah Gyan as captain of the Black Stars. Gyan, who has captained the Black Stars for a record seven years, has been elevated to the position of General Captain. |

Inflation down to 16.7%The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has released the inflation rate for July 2016 with Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) declining to 16.7 per cent from 18.4 per cent in June 2016. The monthly change rate was 0.9 per cent for July 2016 compared to 1.3 per cent recorded in June this year. According to the figures released on Wednesday August 10, food inflation was 8.6 per cent in July, same as in May 2016. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for imported items decreased to 15.2 per cent in July 2016, from 17.3 per cent recorded in June 2016. |

2019 AFCON qualifier: Ayew scores a brace as Ghana beat EthiopiaJordan Ayew scored a brace on Sunday, 18 November 2018 to give the Black Stars of Ghana a 2-0 win over Ethiopia in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Ayew hit the back of the net just three minutes on the clock courtesy an assist from defender Harrison Afful. Ayew got his brace from a well taken penalty kick after Emmanuel Boateng was fouled in the box by Ethiopian goalkeeper. The Ethiopians came into the second half stronger, winning the lion share of possession but the Ghanaian defenders kept them at bay. |

Klottey Korle NDC: SC clears ZanetorDr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been cleared by the Supreme Court to hold herself out as the parliamentary nominee of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the forthcoming general elections. The Supreme Court also directed the High Court to deliver a ruling in that regard because an individual can only be a candidate after the Electoral Commission (EC) has opened the opportunity for filing. The apex court, therefore, said since the EC was yet to take that action, the argument of Dr Rawlings not being eligible did not hold water. |

#2019Budget: Akufo-Addo gov't overborrowing – TerkperFormer Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, has said even though the New Patriotic Party (NPP), while in opposition, kicked against borrowing by the Mahama administration, the Akufo-Addo government is even borrowing more than his predecessor did. The government has promised in the 2019 budget to undertake massive infrastructure projects next year. Mr Terkper says the government “cannot do infrastructure on a revenue base which is not forthcoming in a domestic revenue mobilisation which was promised that they will do outside existing revenue flows”. |
