Former Health Minister in the erstwhile National Democratic Congress government, Alex Segbefia says the decision by the party leadership to expand its electoral college, is partly to blame for the embarrassing defeat the party suffered in the 2016 elections.

The NDC with sitting President John Mahama lost massively in both the presidential and parliamentary elections held on December 7.

Former Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood has been sworn in as the last of the 25-Member Council of State.

The 1992 Constitution reserves a seat for a retired Chief Justice, but for 22 years the vacancy has not been filled. The last time it was filled was in 1995 by former CJ Philip Edward Archer.

Since then three other Chief Justices have died in office or retired on health grounds. The three are Isaac Kobina Abban was expected to retire in May 2001 on health grounds but he died in the same month.

Accra June 19, GNA - The German Ambassador, Mr Christoph Retzlaff says Ghana’ democratic credentials and stable economic growth continued to make it a success story in Africa, and attractive to many foreign partnerships.

“It’s a kind of a model case for many African countries and we see a lot of potential in Ghana, and we think the idea of the G20 Compact with Africa in fostering private business is just matching the priorities of the new government here”, he noted in an interview with the GNA in Accra.
