Anthony Joshua to dominate for a decade after beating Wladimir Klitschko - Duke McKenzie

Anthony Joshua will brush aside Wladimir Klitschko with ease, according to former three-weight world champion Duke McKenzie.

Joshua's IBF heavyweight strap and the vacant WBA 'super' title are on the line when the two heavyweights collide in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium on April 29, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

And McKenzie believes Joshua will comfortably beat Klitschko ahead of a decade of dominance for the London 2012 Olympic gold medallist.

"Joshua is the real deal," McKenzie told Sky Sports.

Kwaku Sakyi-Addo steps down as Telecoms Chamber CEO

Chief Executive Officer of the Telecoms Chamber, Kwaku Sakyi-Addo has stepped down after six years.

According to a statement from the Chamber, Mr Sakyi-Addo is taking on a new role as Chairman of the Board of the National Communication Authority (NCA).

South African protests call on President Zuma to stand down over corruption scandals

Thousands of people have joined rallies in South Africa demanding the resignation of President Zuma after his sacking of a popular minister stoked simmering anger over government corruption and a struggling economy.

Some protesters carried signs reading 'Fire Zuma' while others said they felt the ruling class were more concerned about enriching themselves than dealing with high unemployment, a slowing economy and stubborn racial inequality.

Akufo-Addo Gov’t Chases 14 Billion Dollars Loan

It is emerging that Ghanaians, will witness more borrowing under the Akufo-Addo government, contrary to its campaign accusation against the John Mahama government and avowed promise not to borrow to fund its projects.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for chasing a loan total of 14 billion dollars with a 15-year repayment timeframe a 19 percent interest rate, saying the Akufo-Addo government is not keeping to its campaign promise of not borrowing to undertake developmental projects.

Minority MPs boycott Appointments Committee sittings

Accra, April 5, GNA - Members of the Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) side on the Appointments Committee of Parliament Wednesday boycotted sittings to vet deputy ministers designate.

They said the Majority had sidestepped an agreement for the House to go on recess on Wednesday, April 5, 2017.

Parliament is expected to go on recess by Friday, April 7, but the Appointments Committee will continue vetting the remaining 50 deputy ministers designate.

Policy decisions are anchored on accurate data - Veep

Accra, April 5, GNA - Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday said policy decisions of the Government were based on accurate data and, therefore, called for adequate investment in data gathering processes that would engender development.

He said without information it would be difficult for the Government to take accurate decisions concerning national priorities.

He said the data produced by various actors must be consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals, match user needs and easily comprehensible.

World Bank to help Ghana solve economic challenges

Accra, April 4, GNA - The World Bank’s Vice President for Africa, Mr Makhtar Diop, has extended the Bank’s support towards addressing Ghana’s numerous economic challenges.

He said the Bank was concerned about “one of the engines in the sub-region” and was determined to help Ghana emerge out of her current situation.

Mr Diop made the commitment when he called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House on Tuesday, in Accra.

Galamsey in Ghana affecting Ivory Coast – Frimpong-Boateng

Ivory Coast’s semi-public water distribution company, SODECI, recently shut down its water treatment plant in the area because of the level of pollution in the Bia River.

There has been intense pressure on government to end the illegal practice, and save water bodies and the environment from further destruction.

Currently, some water treatment plants in Ghana have been shut down due to the activities of illegal miners, which have rendered water bodies from which the plants harvest water for processing useless.

Ghana re-appoint Kwesi Appiah as coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has re-appointed Kwesi Appiah as the coach of the Black Stars.

Appiah, who will also take charge of the national team for locally-based players, has been offered a two-year contract to start work 1 May.

He replaces Avram Grant who stepped down as coach after the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

It is a second stint in charge for Appiah, who led the Black Stars from 2012 until 2014.

Since leaving the Black Stars following a poor World Cup campaign, he has been coaching Sudanese side Al Khartoum.

Ghana and Japan sign two grant agreements

Accra, April 1, GNA - Ghana and Japan on Friday, signed two grant agreements totally $ 58.4 million, geared towards the improvement of international corridor roads and sector budget support to promote health service delivery.

The signing of the agreements were initialled for Ghana by Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, while that of Japan was by Mr Kaoru Yoshimura, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan and Mr Koji Makino, the Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Ghana to begin clean fuel importation from July 1

Effective July 1, 2017, petrol and diesel imported into the country will have a maximum sulpur content level of 50 Parts Per Million (ppm), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Hassan Tampuli, has directed.

According to him, NPA had to revise the initial start date of April 1, 2017, mainly to engage Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to make sure that the State-owned refinery as a national asset is not put at a disadvantage position.

He announced this at the 4th Annual General Meeting of the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD).

EU affirms its continuous support to Ghana

The Charge’ d’ Affaires of the European Union in Ghana, Mr Paolo Salvia, has reiterated the commitment of the European Union (EU) to continue its support to Ghana in the area of private sector competitiveness, trade facilitation and fiscal transition.

This, he said, would be done through the regional envelope of the 11th European Development Fund.

Mr Salvia made this remark at the final Steering Committee Meeting of the Trade Related Assistance and Quality Enabling Programme (TRAQUE) in Accra.

Focus on rebuilding NDC - Group

Action Movement, a group affiliated to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stressed the need to rebuild the party to achieve its objectives for the country.

In so doing, the group is calling for the healing of wounds among the rank and file following the NDC’s 2016 electoral defeat.

It has also called on those campaigning for the 2020 presidential slot of the NDC to cease forthwith and rather concentrate on rebuilding the party to capture political power in the next general election.

Ghana records over $500m trade surplus in February 2017

New figures from the Bank of Ghana have revealed that Ghana’s total balance of trade for February 2017 recorded a surplus of 573 million dollars.

This is equivalent to 1.3 percent of Gross Domestic Product for the period.

The surplus is an improvement compared to the over 500 million dollars deficit recorded in February 2016.

But the country’s revenue from cocoa for the period dropped by ten percent.
