SWAG Awards: Anthony Baffoe wins Sports Personality of the Year

Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe was named Sports Personality of the Year on Saturday by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana at their 42nd Awards Night.

The General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana was awarded for his role in international football administration and his contribution to the development of football in Ghana, particularly at the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG).

Atsu, Wakaso, left out of Ghana squad

Christian Atsu has been left out of the 30-man Ghana squad for next month's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia.

The 25-year-old forward is one of several high-profile players omitted by Kwesi Appiah in his first squad since his second coming as Black Stars coach.

Atsu, who signed for newly-promoted English Premier League side Newcastle United this week, is joined on the sidelines by Mubarak Wakaso, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Razak Brimah.

More shake up in Ghana Immigration Service

Thirty-one middle-level management officials of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) have been reassigned from their duty posts across the country.

This is the second major shake-up under the watch of new Comptroller of GIS, Kwame Asuah Takyi, who took office in March this year.

The officers affected are of Superintendent, Chief Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent ranks.

Earlier this month, 45 senior officers were transferred including the Head of Public Affairs at the Immigration Service Francis Palmdetti.

Ghana and Sierra Leone have agreed to ratify the agreement for cooperation between the two countries, so as to provide the legal framework for addressing their trade and investment concerns.

Despite the good relations that exist between the two countries, there is no framework for cooperation to guide these relations
This development has hampered the deepening of bilateral ties and cooperation amongst the two countries.

I will not shield any corrupt public official – President Akufo-Addo

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has stated unequivocally that he will not shield any public official found to be engaged in acts of corruption or malfeasance, but will ensure that the laws of the land are applied fully, without fear or favour.

According to President Akufo-Addo, the recent news of the arrest of some Customs officials responsible for the loss of some GH¢1.2 billion in revenue to the state is part of the efforts his government is making to block revenue leakages at the country’s ports.

Ghana-producer-price-inflation-eases-4-8-pct-April

ACCRA, May 24 (Reuters) - Ghana's producer price inflation fell to 4.8 percent year-on-year in April from 6 percent the month before, as a stronger local currency cut import prices, the statistics office said on Wednesday.

Producer inflation has come down from more than 48 percent in 2014, a sign of progress in stabilizing the economy under an International Monetary Fund programme that looks set to be extended beyond its April 2018 end date.

Russians, Ukrainians detained over illegal mining [Photos]

The two Russians and Two Ukrainians who were arrested on Monday in Ghana for engaging in illegal mining spent the night at the Kumasi Central Police Station in the Ashanti Region.

They are expected to be brought to Accra later today, Tuesday for further investigations.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources John Peter Amewu ordered the arrest of the four foreign nationals for flouting the mining laws of the country.

Calls for regulatory body for housing

Players in the real estate industry are calling for the creation of a supervisory body to regulate the real estate industry in the country.

The Managing Director of NTAC Properties Limited, Mr Jerome Eshun, who made the call, explained that such a body, when established, must be empowered to check unscrupulous and shoddy service providers in order to bring sanity into the real estate sector.

Akufo-Addo condemns ‘despicable’ Manchester bombing

President Nana Akufo-Addo has condemned the Manchester Arena terror attack describing it as "despicable and cowardly acts."

He expressed shock at the attack which left 22 people dead including an eight-year-old girl and injuring over 59 people at Manchester Arena, at the end of a concert by US singer Ariana Grande..

The $150m mystery: Three Ghana Gas helicopters missing?

Although government has paid $150m for three helicopters for Ghana Gas Company, the whereabouts of the choppers remains a mystery, the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has revealed.

It is not known whether the helicopters have been delivered or missing.

$1.2m kickback scandal: Trade Ministry requests forensic audit

Soldiers protecting Galamsey operators – Amewu

The Lands and Natural Resources Minister, John Peter Amewu has accused some personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces High command of providing cover for galamsey operators in hard-hit areas.

He alleged the said military command has without authorization, deployed personnel to protect galamsey operators in parts of the Ashanti region where his team is touring.

In an interview with Citi News, John Peter Amewu called for an immediate probe into the matter.

Any soldier found protecting illegal miners will be dealt with - Defence Minister

Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul has ordered the Chief of Defence Staff to immediately launch investigations into reports that some military officers are providing security for illegal miners.

President returns from 3-nation tour

The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s visit to Senegal, Guinea and Cape Verde as productive.

Guinea join Ghana in U-17 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals

Guinea joined Ghana in the semi-finals of the Under 17 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon after a 0-0 draw between both sides in their final match of Group A in Libreville.

The point was enough for Guinea to finish as group runners-up and secure a place at the World Cup in India in October.

In the other Group A game, Cameroon beat hosts Gabon 1-0 in Port Gentil courtesy of a goal from Stephane Thierry Zobo.

The result was not enough for Cameroon to progress, ending the tournament in third place in the standings, ahead of Gabon who had already been eliminated.

Multinational networking and telecommunications giant, Ericsson on Thursday showcased in Ghana some advanced technology it had developed to help telecom companies and others who provide Information Communication Technology services, better serve their customers.

Eni launches OCTP production, Ghana

Eni has started first production from its Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project, offshore Ghana.

The project, which comprises the Sankofa Main, Sankofa East and Gye-Nyame fields, about 60km off Ghana, was completed in just two and a half years, and three months ahead of schedule, according to Eni.
